3 Tips for Living Smart During School Season

Hi everyone!

Can you believe it’s back-to-school time again? These first few weeks have flown by, and I’m quickly learning that the switch from long summer days to hectic mornings and after-school homework sessions never gets easier. So, I’m cooking up ways to adjust to the new schedule and ensure we don’t lose our healthy habits in the transition. Here are a few we’re putting into action, and ones I encourage you to try too.

  1. Healthy can be simple! Sometimes it’s easy to assume that nutritious breakfasts or snacks equal more prep time, but that doesn’t have to be the case. Blueberries, baby carrots and cherry tomatoes are three foods that are ready to roll after a quick rinse! Toss them into bento boxes for kids’ lunches, or place a bowl of them out on the counter as an afternoon snack. You’ll be surprised how quickly they get eaten!
  2. Combine snack time and study time. Remember those dry kidney beans we used in school to learn arithmetic? Math is much more fun when the props are actually edible! When Ben’s doing his math homework, I’ll arm him with a bunch of blueberries to use for calculations and to snack on.Capture                                                          (Photo Courtesy: BellaTunno.com)
  3. Unwind with fresh air and exercise. At the end of a busy day, it’s tempting to flop onto the couch and zone out, but autumn evenings are perfect for unwinding with family walks around the neighborhood. When you feel the TV or iPad beckoning, force yourself to get outside and move for at least 15 minutes.

How do you make sure the transition from summer to fall doesn’t disrupt your family’s healthy rhythm? Share your tips in the comments section below or by posting on Facebook or tweeting at @blueberry411!

Xoxo
