The U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council is an agriculture promotion group made up of blueberry farmers, processors and importers in North and South America, who work together to research, innovate and promote the fruits of their labors as well as the growth and well-being of the entire blueberry industry. The blueberry industry is committed to providing blueberries that are grown, harvested, packed and shipped in clean, safe environments.
The Council was founded by and is funded by its members, with independent oversight from the USDA. In 2000, members of the North American Blueberry Council (NABC), a voluntary organization that has supported the highbush blueberry industry for more than 50 years, submitted a proposal to the USDA for the Blueberry Promotion, Research and Information Order and creation of the USHBC. Growers and importers approved the program in a referendum.
