Blueberry Buckle

When we think of Blueberry Buckle, we think of warm summer days, a cold glass of lemonade and arguing over the last sweet piece left on the plate! Whatever memories you associate with Blueberry Buckle, the crumbly topping and burst of blueberries in each bite of this classic treat will transform an ordinary day into one you won’t forget.


  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1-½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1-½ cups blueberries
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1⁄3 cup flour
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup soft butter or margarine


  1. Mix ¾ cup sugar, shortening, eggs and milk until well blended
  2. Stir in 1-½ cups flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg and cloves
  3. Gently fold in blueberries
  4. Spread batter into a greased 9-inch square pan
  5. Combine remaining ingredients and mix until crumbly
  6. Sprinkle crumbs over batter
  7. Bake in a preheated 375ºF oven for 45 to 50 minutes or until top springs back when lightly touched
  8. Serve warm, cut into squares
