Thanksgiving is behind us, and you know what that means; holiday break is right around the corner! With the whole family home for some down time, I’m looking forward to trying new activities that will make for a happy and fun-filled season.
For the kids, I’m thinking we can make snowman snow cones! Where we live in California snow is highly unlikely, but still a great part of the season for many of us. I think Ben and Megan will go wild over a simple treat made with shaved ice (or snow), real fruit juice and, to top it off, frozen blueberries for Frosty’s face. I’m also considering ways to make the classic gingerbread house a healthier activity, like swapping the usual gumdrops and chocolate candies for dried fruit and plain popcorn … or using whole wheat flour for the gingerbread. But there will be no skimping on the candy cane lamp posts! 😉
For the grown-ups, I’m going to try a holiday hors d’oeuvre with a more nutritious topping than most – this Blueberry-Cranberry Relish – and a spiced Sangria-inspired winter cocktail with orange bitters, ginger and cinnamon sticks.
